The long awaited shearing of Des Dougan took place amid cheers and laughter on the concourse adjacent to the Barista Cafe at City Centre First to wield Annual Ismail! Walk for Charity On a VERY wet Sunday in September, five College employees participated in the annual Ismaili Walk for Charity. Despite the rain, we had a lot of fun, walking, bidding in the silent auction, watching local dancers, building bird houses with the kids and eating some yummy traditional foods. the scissors was Joan Billesberger an The annual Walk is in its eleventh instructor from the Visually Impaired department. Joan quipped that there were two things she had always year. Each year, the Ismaili Council of BC chooses a non-profit organization wanted to do, cut someone's hair and drive a car. Well, one down, one to go, Joan. Next, Des was turned over to the capable hands of Colin Cullimore who ably demonstrated some of the design skills one can acquire in the Hairstyling department. It's surprising other 'victims' didn't step forward for a cut! It was a fun-filled event for a good cause. Des Dougan deserves recognition and a huge round of applause for being such a good sport to become Walk Partners. In addition to helping coordinate the Walk, the non-profit also receives the funds raised through the event. This year's Walk Partner was Habitat for Humanity, an organization that seeks to eliminate poverty housing in Canada and around the world. Next year, the funds raised will support the United Way's "Success by Six" program.
