VOLUME 2 : NUMBER 43 : NOVEMBER 02, 1984 MOV " 5 1984 TO ALL COLLEGE EMPLOYEES VCC-VANCOUVnn VOCATIONAL INSTITUIt, The Vancouver Conmunity College Board announces that it has accepted, with great regret, the resignation of A. S. (Tony) Manera as President and Chief Executive Officer of the College, effective February 28, 1985. Mr. Manera is leaving the College to pursue a career opportunity in "an exciting field outside education." In accepting his resignation the Board wished Mr. Manera great success in his future career. Mr. Manera was appointed Chief Executive Officer of the College effective February 21, 1978. Prior to joining VCC he had served for six years as President of Niagra College in Ontario. Mr. Manera's career in education will have spanned a total of twenty years when he moves into his new field. While announcing Mr. Manera's departure, Peter H. Hebb, Chairman of the College Board, thanked him on behalf of the Board for his seven years of distinguished service to the College and the conmunity. Mr. Hebb stated "I know I speak on behalf of all members of the College community in saying we will miss him." Mr. Hebb also announced that the search process to find a new President will begin immediately. The Board has established a search committee comprised of the Vice-Chairman of the Board, Mrs. Elizabeth Jarvis, and Board Member, Mrs. Barbara Spitz and representatives appointed by various constituent groups within the College. The Personnel Committee of the Board has been authorized to oversee the search process on behalf of the Board. The search conmittee will recoimiend a "short-list" of candidates to the new College Board who shall make the final selection of a new president. FIIM AWARENESS MONTH 1984 November 08 will be the first showing of a series of movies dealing with Disabled people and the misconception about them. WI had a total of sixty-six runners, walkers, joggers, and we covered a schedule of twenty-four hours with only one or two emissions. The highest number of pledges across the College was achieved by George Clark, and we expect we will have other high achievers. All money for pledges should be turned in to Dalton Kremer (Counselling), Myma Breikks (Dental Assisting), Steve Odwin (Dental Tech) or Janet Corns (Student Services), by Friday November 02 (noon). Phase 2 - United Way breakfast served by your WI administrators, November 08 from 07:00 to 09:30. Pre-sale of tickets at $2.00 each will take place in the main mall on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. On November 08 the cafeteria will only be serving the United Way breakfast, consisting of pancakes, bacon, juice and coffee. All proceeds go to the United Way, so come and support WI's participation! MICROCCMPUTERS It may be possible for the College to purchase a large number of microcomputers at a significant quantity discount and use some for College use and sell others to faculty for their personal use. The computer would be compatible with the IBM Personal Computer and would cost about $3,000. This price does not include a printer. There are printers at the College that can be used by faculty to print documents from diskettes produced by a compatible computer. If you plan to buy a similar microcomputer in the near future and would be interested in the possibility of a bulk purchase, please send me a note at the VCC Computer Centre at Langara. J.
