VVINSIDER : VOLUME 4 : NUMBER 35 : NOVEMBER 24, 1986 IT'S GONE Did you notice?? Something has been missing from the VCC scene these last few months. The long suffering "Intercom" sank quietly into oblivion some months ago leaving nary a ripple to mark its passingl For the blissfully uninitiated, the "Intercom" was a monthly publication that attempted to serve all the divisions of VCC as a source of information and inspiration - the fact that few if any noted its passing speaks volumes as to its effectiveness. Into the gap, comes a new, and we hope scintillating publication that will intrigue, delight and inform. The first edition is December, 1986. As your reporter for VVI, please beat down my door or send, via inter-office any hard or soft VVI news, interesting student or alumni profiles, gripping programming developments, cartoons, upcoming events, or dare I say, gossip (certain restrictions will apply). Any contributions or leads would be greatly appreciated by November 26th! This DOES NOT include any advertising. Any course or program advertising should be forwarded to Wynn Keenan. Any public relations material, i.e. Public Service Announcements, news releases should be forwarded to me. You can reach me at Local 375, or by addressing any info to the Research Assistant. DEC 0 3 1988 VCC-VANCOUVER VOCATIONAL INSTITUTE LIBRARY IF I HAD MY LIFE TO LIVE OVER I'd like to make more mistakes next time. I'd relax. I would limber up. I would be sillier than I have been this trip. I would take fewer things seriously. I would take more chances. I would climb more mountains and swim more rivers. I would eat more ice cream and less beans. I would perhaps have more actual troubles, but I'd have fewer imaginary ones. You see, I'm one of those people who live sensibly sanely hour after hour, day after day. Oh, I've had my moments, and if I had it to do over again, I'd have more of them. In fact, I'd try to have nothing else. Oust moments, one after another, instead of living so many years ahead of each day. I've been one of those persons who never goes anywhere without a thermometer, a hot water bottle, a raincoat and a parachute. If I had to do it again, I would travel lighter than I have. If I had my life to live over, I would start barefoot earlier in the spring and stay that way later in the fall. I would go to more dances. I would ride more merry-go-rounds. I would pick more daisies. Relax - Nadine Stair, B5 years old NEW CEIC HOURS The Canada Manpower Office on campus is now open from 09:30 to 16:15, Monday through Friday. PEMC GIFT FO 1000+ FILMS COMES TO VCC The Provincial Educational Media Centre (PEMC) has donated over a thousand 16mm films for use by the instructors and students whose libraries belong to the Media Exchange Cooperative, of which VCC is a member. The films add a significant educational resource (worth almost a million dollars if we had to buy them now) to the existing VCC collection. The films are now being catalogued and processed in a systematic manner. As the films become available for circulation, you will be notified. The Provincial Educational Media Centre is a major support to post-secondary institutions for the provision of instructional media materials. Within budget limitations, PEMC negotiates provincial duplication rights for videotape resources, lends films, and works in partnership with post-secondary media librarians to identify priority titles for clearance. Resource materials cleared provincially are available to educational institutions for a fraction of the cost of buying the original print. Members of the Media Exchange Cooperative have continued to support resource sharing of film, and more recently, videotape titles, for the past 14 years. The consortium includes 17 colleges and institutes and 3 universities throughout the province. The goodwill and commitment of the member media library staffs have greatly extended the base of our resources for teaching and learning at VCC. The new PEMC films will enhance the access to these valuable resources for the consortium and for VCC clients. For further information, please talk to your librarian, or call the VVI Library reference desk at local 296.
