Rerup, Principal, Vancouver Vocational Institute, 250 West Pender Street, Vancouver, B.C., V6B 1S9 Dear Mr. Rerup: It is a pleasure to report a successful clinic held at Vancouver Vocational Institute on November 28, 1983. There was a total of 172 donors attending which resulted in 150 units being collected. Our special thanks to Mr. George Clark for his time and support in co-ordinating the clinic requirements. We appreciate the assistance of the building services staff in getting the clinic set-up. On behalf of The Canadian Red Cross Society may I extend best wishes to all for the holiday season. Yours sincerely, k * > - -x- (Mrs.) Miriam Thompson, Clinic Co-ordinator, Blood Donor Recruitment. c.c.: Mr. George Clark MT/as Suppozted by yom United Way or Red Cross campaign contribution BOWL FOR MILLIONS The Big Brothers of Greater Vancouver group is sponsoring their annual "Bowl for Millions" fund raising event during the week of February 4 , 1984 , and everyone is invited to either join or form a five member team to bowl one evening and help generate funds for the cause. Your help and contributions will be used to recruit specially trained counsellors who will screen applicants, direct the matching process, and oversee on-going relationships for the approximately 100 boys who are currently on the waiting list for a Big Brother. Funds will also help advertise for recruitment of volunteers since some boys will have to wait one or two years before being matched with a Big Brother. One hundred and eighty seven teams competed in last year's Bowl for Millions, and this year for every $25.00 raised and remitted by a team member by the deadline of March 31, an entry will be submitted in the draw for a $2000.00 prize. That means if you remit $150.00 you will receive six chances in the draw held April 20, 1984. For further information regarding the Bowl for Millions, contact Dalton Kremer in the Counselling Department at Local 220, or Vivian Smith of Big Brothers at 434-1411. THE INSTRUCTIONAL SKILLS WORKSHOP FACT SHEET The Instructional Skills Workshop (ISW) is organized and presented by the Program Development Department at Vancouver Vocational Institute for the benefit of VVI full or part-time employees. Others may be registered through approval by the Dean of Instruction, VVI. Through articulation the ISW has been recognized for credit by the University of BC and the Ministry of Education. The equivalency granted is for course 101 in the Instructors Diploma program (ID 101). Requests for credit are handled by the Dean of Instruction at VVI upon completion of the ISW. The workshop format is-oriented to a five-member group plus one facilitator. Applicants should be aware that they must attend all six four hour sessions of the ISW once the workshop is underway. The workshop is conducted by the facilitator who establishes and maintains a pleasant, relaxed atmosphere conducive to adult learning activities. All learners work through the basic theory and preparation elements of instruction and the use of instructional aids. The facilitator then supports mini-lessons from each learner. Constructive feedback makes these teaching attempts a valuable learning experience for most participants. It is most important to realize that the small group must have full attendance and support to give the maximum learning experience for all concerned. After each workshop session the learners will be required to complete assignments. These will relate to theory of instruction at first and then will consist of designing, planning and presenting mini-lessons. liad'SL > Administration 1155 East Broadway, Box No 24700 Sta 'C Vancouver, B C V5T 4N4 Telephone 875-1131 December 8, 1983 TO: ALL VANCOUVER COMMUNITY COLLEGE EMPLOYEES FROM: The President RE: Withdrawal of Services - 1983 November 8 to November 13 A number of employees withdrew their services from the College during the above stated period.
