Fred Naso of the Culinary Arts Department received a letter recently from Dante Lupini, Superintendent of Schools for the Board of School Trustees, School District #39 (Vancouver): "In recognition of your continued sponsorship of our work experience students, we would like to commend you for your valuable contribution to their education. We are very grateful for your support and wish to single you out as a continuing sponsor who has been willing to accommodate our young people to apply their knowledge and skills to actual out-of-school activities in the work world...you have shown an optimistic and positive acceptance of our programs and have provided worthwhile supervision in a realistic atmosphere for continued learning..." AND MORE LETTERS...! Here's a letter we should all keep at the ready to put things into perspective on those days when we wonder just why we are in the education business. This poignant letter (reprinted as written) from Rafique Ullah in Bangladesh was forwarded to the VVInsider by Jackie Sandy from our Counselling Department. It was addressed to the Printing Production Department of V.C.C. Vancouver Vocational Institute and reads: "Sub:-Prayer for admission form and information guide. Dear Sir, I beg to state that I would like to admission in your college in the Department of Graphic Arts. If you send me necessary information in this regards that would be helpful to me. There is no scope of graduate levl education in Graphic Arts, in our country. Awaiting for your reply. Thanking you." Needless to say, this letter is a jarring reminder of how education is taken for granted in the western world.
