RERUP For all those of you who have been asking when and what will be done to say farewell and thank you to HANS RERUP before he moves over the Central Administration as the new Director of Strategic Planning. The answer is that as Dr. Rerup will still be seen on campus for quite some time, as he is still overseeing all the construction thatis taking place, that a more appropriate time for a big campus-wide party would be sometime in the spring. A Committee will be set up to organize this event and the two Deans promise it will be a gala event! WHO'S MOVING WHERE AT VVI WAYNE AVERY has moved to Counselling and can be reached at local 218. You have now all gone out and purchased your new computer with the help of the college....now you can start to find out all about viruses and go into a cold sweat!! JOHN ROBERTS tells us that the wire services have recently published reports about a harmful computer virus that is supposed to strike after October 12 (and today's the 13th - right?). They go on to say that while the virus is unusually harmful, it is so rare that it shouldn't cause panic (but no doubt will - right again?). The "Datacrime" virus attacks the hard disk data storage devices of IBM-compatible PC's that use MS-DOS. It wipes out the directory section, making it impossible for the disk's contents to be read. The virus is triggered when an infected program is used any time after the computer's internal clock passes October 12. John tells us that the best thing computer users can do to protect themselves from this, or any other, virus is to make backup copies, every day, of everything you want to save. Users can limit their exposure to viruses by staying away from bootleg software while being cautious in their use of computer bulletin boards and networks. THE SAGA OF THE THOUSAND MILERS... It' s that time again folks - the thousand milers have all gone on their annual trek and there are none to be found. What you ask is a @#$%A&* thousand miler? They are the ubiquitous brown envelopes also known as inter¬ office envelopes or inter-campus envelopes. So, the question is: who's has them all locked away in dark comers doing nefarious things together? Whoever is conducting experiments on these poor innocent victims - please return them to their home - in the mailroom. Thank you!
