VVI programs in the following areas will be transferred to BCIT by September 1988: Electricity and Industrial Electronics Power Engineering Security Alarm Installer The Hospitality/Tourism programs being transferred to VVI will be slowly phased in over the next few months as facilities are built to accommodate them, with all of the programs in the following areas to be in place by August 1989: Cooking Baking Hospitality Management Full-Time (Diploma) Hospitality Management Part-Time (Certificate) Meat Cutting Meat Wrapping Sausage Making VVI and BCIT are working together to make the transition as smooth as possible. This program is a key element of InnovAction, the Canadian Strategy for Science and Technology. The objectives of the program are to promote fundamental and long-term applied research and to provide an opportunity for the nation's best researchers to work together in support of Canada's long term industrial competitiveness. Applications are invited from all disciplines in the natural, medical and social sciences and humanities as well as in engineering. Letters of intent must be submitted to the Inter-Council Directorate no later than September 30, 1988. The deadline for submission of applications is November 30, 1988. ALUMNI UPDATE New President - The new President of the VCC Alumni Association is Dennis Fitzpatrick. Dennis is an Arts and Sciences graduate from the old King Edward Campus. Since graduating in law from UBC he has become a partner in the law firm of Shandro Dixon. Dennis has brought a great deal of energy and enthusiasm to the Association since he joined the Board in June of 1987.
