VVINSIDER: VOLUME 7: NUMBER 19: NOVEMBER 03, 1989 Editor and Chief Cartoonist: Jackie Gelling (local 237) vu>vANGuuvi w iNoi.'iurr ^ » IT'S OFFICIAL!! WE ARE NOW VC TO THE 4TH! The VCC College Board and President PAUL GALLAGHER have announced that VVI will now be officially known at VANCOUVER COMMUNITY COLLEGE, CITY CENTRE. This decision was reached at the October 25th College Board meeting and came after much debate about a name change for the campus. The Administrative Council has appointed MARVIN LAMOUREUX, the Dean of Instruction, as the Chair for the "Name Change Implementation Sub-Committee". The Committee will study ways to ease the im¬ plementation of this change. Stay tuned for further details! WHO'S MOVING WHERE AT VVI D ALTON KREMER has been appointed the new Department Head of Counselling - congratulations Dalton. NANCY RICHARDSON has moved to Adult Special Education and can be reached at Local 255. HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE COUNCIL MEETINGS Both the Administrative and Academic Councils have now drawn up draft Terms of Reference these will be fine tuned over the next couple of weeks and will be published once final approval has been given. HAS RON ATKINSON GOT A DEAL FOR YOU! Ron dropped by the other day to advise that he has been asked to see if anyone is interested in a house exchange for 1990. Seems he has a contact in New Zealand who would like to swap houses, beginning about March 1990 for at least six to ten months. They need a house or apartment with at least two bedrooms. In exchange you would get a sunny, comfortable three-bedroom house with "pleasant grounds" in a quiet area in Auckland. Ten minutes drive from the city and University. If you're interested contact Ron Atkinson at local 336. INCOUl^ER OMMUNITY incouver Lr* cational Institute NEWS FROM THE DENTAL DEPARTMENT LIZZ LINDSAY, Department Head of the Dental Assisting/Reception Department, writes to ask faculty and staff to please announce to students, friends and family that the Dental Clinic is now accepting patients for their Restorative Clinic, which runs on Tuesdays. Anyone who requires fillings can call the clinic (6814910) or visit the reception area on the 3rd floor of the Hamilton Tower. The dental treatment is performed by 4th year UBC Dental students on rotation at VCC. AND NOW FOR SOME NEWS FROM THE CULINARY ARTS AREA ULRICH FALTER, Department Head of the Culinary Arts Department, writes to remind everyone that his department is only too happy to accommodate you with all food requests. HOWEVER! they need at least five working days notice of any upcoming functions. Also Ulrich would like to remind you that during the week of new class intakes (January 2-5,1990, February 26-March 02, 1990) no catering orders are accepted. CHARLES KILCHENMANN, Department Head, Dining Room and Lounge Service, writes to thank everyone who has patronized JJ's Restaurant, but asks that when faculty and staff make lunch reservations they give the correct time and date, the correct number of guests per reservation. More than eight guests will require a set menu and 24 hours confirmation. Only one bill will be issued, no separate bills will be written. So, there you have it, these policies have been in place for quite some time - but with new people coming on board, and old age memory lapses setting in, we all need reminders occasionally! MOVING RIGHT ALONG WITH...NEWS FROM THE LIBRARY! EVA SHARELL writes to say to all instructors that if you are planning to distribute, to your students, a booklist of material available in the library - please check with the Library first. Eva advises that the Library is continually adding to their collection and withdrawing out-dated or damaged books. They would be happy to update your lists if you give them enough lead time. SANDRA JONES writes to say that Image Media Services is once again offering some good prices on com¬ puter software: Microsoft Works • Macintosh or MS-DOS $ 70.00 Microsoft Excel . Macintosh or MS-DOS $120.00 Microsoft Word Macintosh or MS-DOS $ 95.00 Microsoft Quick-Pascal MS-DOS $ 50.00 They also offer Worksbox - a student training manual for Microsoft Works at a cost of $23. Please contact the Library for further information. If you would like to order, Image Media will only accept orders via the Library. MORE GEN FROM PACIFIC RIM TOM MEIKLE has written again to say that they are distributing a brief newsletter on the progress of the magazine. If you want a copy or have been (inadvertently) overlooked, please contact Tom at 324-5430, or pick up a sheet at your library. Tom also asks that any surplus Pacific Rim mags be returned to his office. BECAUSE IT'S THERE!
