CWM JT CITY CENTRE VCC CITY CENTRE LIBRARY MAY 1 4 1991 Printing Production Helps Find Michael Mills, Mitchell Press, Hemlock Printers and Benwell-Atkins. Reger & Company and Canadian Fine Colour contributed ink, and Running Graphics pitched in with film and printing plates. The actual production of the poster is being done by the Printing Production students. For them, this job is more than just great training. "It's been a student project from the word 'go'", Student George Mali pulls a poster off the press. Wh 'hat began on Wednesday, May 1,1991 with a simple phone call to Doug Gordon has culminated in five short working days with the production of over 1.5 million posters of Michael Dunahee. Four and a half year old Michael disappeared six weeks ago from a Victoria playground. Doug Gordon and his team of instructors, staff, students and generous suppliers have managed to achieve the amazing! As of Wednesday, May 8, the department had 1.5 million posters ready to go, lacking only the boxes to pack them in. "We brought it to the production control department, and the decision to go with it was immediate," says Doug. "It is a student project and we are a commu¬ nity college. It is our job to help the community." Doug went to the industry for paper stock, plates, film and ink. Paper was donated by Island Paper Volume 2 Number 03 says Doug. "They've been coming in early and finishing up late. They're getting tired, but they've been just great!" This past weekend, one of Doug's Printing Production students also organized a group of Vancouver high school students to distribute the poster at the Douglas and Peace Arch border cross¬ ings. The 8.5" by 11" poster, in two versions, shows a picture of Michael, his description and information on his last sighting. LeClair hopes the poster leads to a breakthrough. "People may say 'I've seen it before'," she says, "but maybe the person next to you hasn't. It just takes one person. It (the search effort) just keeps getting bigger. There's a very clear message...being made here by Canadians, by British Columbians. We are tired of this, and we're going to stop it. We're through with having our children abducted and taken away We won't stand for it any more! This is not going to stop until Michael is safe at home with his parents." The marvellous effort of Doug Gordon, the instruc¬ tors, staff and students of the Printing Production Department have done their very best to help make Michael's safe return a reality.
