ANOTHER BABY This time Sandy Kirilo (nee Stoneburgh), of the Bake Shop sales, and her husband are the proud parents of Jasinta, a baby girl born June 30. The parents expected their daughter a little later but it seems the baby decided otherwise and made her appearance weighing in at 6 lbs. 9 oz. There will be a baby shower for Sandy in the Employee Lounge on Friday, July 18 at 16:30. Staff are invited to come and celebrate - gifts, cards, smiles and lots of cheer are welcome! QUOTE OF THE WEEK Common sense is instinct. Enough of it is genius. JUL 1 8 M COMMUNITY Vocational Institute VCC - VANCOUVER VOCATIONAL INSTITUTE LIBRARY WITH SYMPATHY Syd Hartley's wife Margo passed away July 6 after a long battle with cancer. The funeral was held on Wednesday, July 9, at St. John the Apostle Church. Following is an article written by Margo. ******** TO LIFE! WITH THANKS by Margo Hartley As most of you know, I was away last year on sick leave, catapulted suddenly from the laughter, activity, and ceaseless demands of the life of a working wife and mom to the anxiety-ridden peace and quiet of the sick-room. It's amazing how simple life became. One day I had a thousand different goals and priorities; the next day one goal only—to stay alive so that I could be with the people I loved, family and friends. It was a long struggle, and I wouldn't recommend the itinerary, but there were some remarkably beautiful and happy moments during that yeai—most of them the result of the goodness of other people: husband, children, family, friends, colleagues, health-care professionals. I was overwhelmed by the number of people from my own department, from Langara (faculty, staff, and administrators), from VVI, and from the Regional Office of VCC who took the time to phone, write, send cards, flowers, and books, who spent hours figuring out my sick leave benefits, disability insurance, contracts, etc., and who dropped in to say hello or to take me out for coffee or lunch as the year went on. It would be impossible to tell you just how much I benefited from all that caring—what strength and hope and reassurance it gave me. Suffice it to say, I'm still here, and I will never again underestimate the healing power of a friendly word or gesture or prayer, or the miracles that can be accomplished by a loving family. I'm sure you'll also understand why I now find it very difficult to listen patiently to the Henney-Penneys of the world who are constantly telling us, for one reason or another, that "the sky is falling". At the moment, life seems pretty wonderful to me. ******** Ztty-Pr PIMA CALLS EXHIBITORS "+. '"Mis- ?•>_„.
