Dick invites everyone who knows John and would like to bid him a fond farewell and happy retirement, to do so on Wednesday, August 30 at a gettogether to be held in the baking classroom from l:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Coffee, tea, wine and cheese will be provided by the VIA and the Baking Department. HEY! IT'S REALLY NICE TO SEE YOU AGAIN!! DEPARTMENT... After what has seemed like a very long time without his scintillating, effervescent presence on campus - it's good to see BOB MALONE wandering around the halls again. Most of us, I'm sure, are very happy to see his fluorescent Hawaiian shirts brightening up our environment once more! That having been said, Bob has asked the Insider to publish his heartfelt thanks to all his friends and colleagues on campus who inquired about his health during the months he was away, and who welcomed him back when he returned. STAR-STRUCK AT THE VVI (You Otta be in pictures, etc.) So, there they were, all the star-struck, yet-to-be-discovered hopefuls, waiting for their moment of glory, to be discovered and whisked off to Hollywood....glamour! Romance! Money! (lots of it!) RollsRoyces! Perennial Sunshine on the palms of a Beverley Hills Mansion! Well, that was the dream. The reality was sitting around for hours, until the wee small hours of the evening, in the Administration Offices (yes! our Admin offices!) waiting to be called for their moment of glory. Administration had miraculously been turned into....are you ready for this?....The FBI offices in Washington, D.C.!! Com¬ plete with Department of Justice plaques on the walls, framed photographs of George Bush and American flags. All the fantasy was for a new TV series, being filmed in Vancouver, which will be premiered this fall (Thursdays at 9:00 p.m. on CBC) and stars William Katt (last seen in the "Great American Hero" TV series). Watch for it and see if you can recognize any of your fellow VVI co-workers. THANK YOU ONE AND ALL The Alzheimer Society of B.C. has written to thank all those who donated to the 1988/89 United Way campaign. The money they received will be put towards increased research into the cause of Alz¬ heimer Disease and to their Resource Centre and Information Line.
