CONGRATULATIONS GEORGE Once a year the Red Cross honours blood donors who have given 50, 75, or 100 donations of blood, and this year our own George Clark will be one of the donors receiving special mention and a certificate signed by the Governor General of Canada. The certificate will be presented by the Honourable Robert G. Rogers, Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia in recognition of George's 50 donations. Perhaps this will serve as incentive for us when the next blood donor clinic is held at the campus in July. mNCOUVER COMMUNITY COLLEGE Vancouver Vocational Institute LIBRARY FILMS May 29 (n;45 in the Library Screening Room) AT 99 A look at the life of this vivacious nonagenarian as she approaches her hundredth birthday. I kFROM THE 'SCRAP BIN' IN WELDING Burrard Yarrows was recently awarded a $91 million contract to build an Arctic Class 4 icebreaker for the Canadian Coast Guard. The icebreaker will employ about 1000 shipbuilders of which about 200 to 300 will be welders! Let's hope the contract and the spin-offs will be beneficial to our Welding grads. ES WORDS OF WISDOM FROM THE 'SCRAP BIN1 A man lived by the side of the road and sold hot dogs He was hard of hearing so he had no radio He had trouble with his eyes so he read no newspapers But he sold good hot dogs He put up signs on the highway telling how good they were He stood by the side of the road and cried "Buy a hot dog Mister?" And people bought He increased his meat and bun orders He bought a bigger stove to take care of his business He brought his son home from college to help him But then something happened . . . His son said, "Father, haven't you been listening to the radio? There's a depression on The European situation is bad The Asian situation is terrible The Domestic situation is worse" Whereupon the father thought, well my son's been to College He reads the papers and listens to the radio and he ought to know So the father cut down on his meat and bun orders Took down his advertising signs And no longer bothered to stand out on the highway to sell hot dogs And his hot dog sales fell off almost overnight "You're right son," the father said to the boy "We certainly are in the middle of a terrible depression]"
