Our records verify that in comparison to previous campaigns (1983-^21,243.42 and 1982-$20,484.32) the 1984 campaign was the most successful yet and many thanks to all who contributed. Closing date is 1985 08 02. police seminar update Constable Lang of the Vancouver City Police Department was well received with his seminar on Rape Prevention. The Community Relations Department notes that the "high risk" groups for rape are indicated by the following statistics: - 55% of all rape victims are students - 71% of all rape victims are ages 1 to 17 while the most frequently attacked group is age 11 through 30 - 57% of all rapists are under age 21 - 50% of all rapes fall into the category of "casual acquaintance" The Department also notes that it is especially eager to meet with students to provide awareness and information with regards to rape prevention. I BUSINESS EDUCATION, WORD PROCESSING CENTRE The Business Department is pleased to announce that the Word Processing Centre, operated by students, is open for business. The purpose of the Vford Processing Centre is to provide students with the opportunity to obtain "on-the-job" training in an every-day business environment. MINISTRY OF EDUCATION RELEASED: June 27, 1985 PRESS RELEASE #74 CONTACT: Eric Denhoff 387-4611 VANCOUVER COMMUNITY COLLEGE Capital Funds Approved VICTORIA—Education Minister Jack Heinrich and the Honourable Stephen Rogers and Russell Fraser, MLAs for Vancouver South, today jointly announced funds totalling $125,000 have been approved for capital renovations to Vancouver Community College. The capital funding allocation will allow Vancouver Community College to up-grade its mechanical and electrical systems. The Education Minister said the funding is a part of a provincial government initiative to ensure that post-secondary education facilities are well maintained in order to avoid major renovations at a future date• "It is sound economy to protect our capital investment in education facilities by making essential repairs," Heinrich said. The Vancouver Community College capital funding allocation is a part of a $1,243,000 capital funding approval released today for 11 B.C. post-secondary institutions. The funding will be used for a variety of capital renovations, including up-grading of lighting and alarm systems, ventilation system up-gradings, first-aid facility replacements, heavy-duty equipment shop renovations, parking lot extensions and electrical system up-gradings. - 30 - W-214 MR-455 EXPO 86 What the World is coming to! XMUMTY SOLLIG Vancouver Community College is pleased to announce two instructor training initiatives: the Train the Trainer Program and the Instructor Training Program. Both will be offered at .the Vancouver Vocational Institute (VVI) campus (25U West Pender Street). The Train the Trainer Program is designed to prepare the technician, technologist, tradesperson or professional with the necessary knowledge and skills to train others in their area of specialization. The program forms the first level of the more advanced Instructor Training Program which is the College's equivalent to the Ministry of Education's Instructor Diploma (I.D.) program. The Train the Trainer program emphasizes a highly practical 'hanos on' approach to the design, planning, preparation, management and evaluation for instruction and includes 4 courses. The program goals are to: design and develop training plans and programs organize learning materials to provide the optimum learning experiences plan and conduct training sessions use and appraise several methods of conducting instruction develop and use evaluation and testing procedures develop and use training aids develop and use instructional support print materials provide feedback of trainees Each course is 3U hours in length. Course titles are: Program Design, Giving of Instruction, Evaluation of Learning and a Practicum. The first three courses listed above may be taken m any sequence, the Practicum is conducted on a tutorial basis at a place suitable for the individual student. A Vancouver Community College Certificate is awarded to students who successfully complete the 120 hour program. The Instructor Training Program is an advanced training program and includes 4 additional courses: Adult Development and Education, Instructional Media Use, Evaluation of Instruction, Introduction to Computer Support Applications. The courses may be taken in any sequence. A College Certificate for this advanced program is awarded to participants who successfully complete the 3 courses (excluding Practicum) from the Train the Trainer program, plus the 4 courses listed above. In addition, Vancouver Community College will award the successful Instructor Training Program graduate with an I.D. equivalency statement as per article 9 of the VCC/VIA Collective Agreement.
