MEL mmxmvER COMMUNITY Vocational Institute Date January 10, 1985 From D. D. Jones MEMO To Whom It May Concern Director of Human Resources Subject Employee Benefit Plan As you may be aware, the College Board, at its meeting of November 28, 1984, approved, in principle, the establishment of a plan to allow administrators'and permanent regular faculty to defer a portion of their regular salary for retirement or sabbatical leave purposes. Initially, it was hoped that we could implement the plan as early as December, 1984 based on the premise that an advance tax ruling from Revenue Canada would not be required. Some concerns in this regard were expressed by the College Board and, upon investigation, proved to be very valid. Accordingly, it was deemed, in the mutual best interests of the College, the Plan Administ¬ ration Committee and the prospective members of the Plan to seek an advanced tax ruling from Revenue Canada, Taxation. We are proceeding immediately to make such an application and anticipate approval to be forthcoming in the near future. Until then, we cannot formally execute the Trust Agreement and other plan documents and participation by individuals in the Plan cannot begin. When all details are finalized, an announcement will be made.
