Jarvis announced the resignation of College Boatd.^ member Mrs. Virginia Giles and the appointment of two new Board members/-'1' I 5 jm Anthony Saunders and Mrs. Hope Wotherspoon. The Board approved phase two of the Metro Vancouver Youth Job Corps contract in the amount of $350,000. The program is offered under the aegis of Continuing Education. Also approved were temporary funded courses for the Basic Food Service Worker program (CE) and the Dental Technician/Mechanic program (VVI). The Board approved the distribution of the 1% additional funding received from $1-14,363 the Ministry ($381,000) as follows: Langara V.V.I. K.E.C. C.E. Dr. Denholm informed the Board of additional funds available: $152,000 for operating capital (not yet distributed), $545,000 for institutional renewal (not yet distributed), and $5,800,000 for the college system for local economic renewal and development (accessed by application). In private session, the Board approved a contract for the installation of a new telephone system for Langara Campus, utilizing the funds specifically allocated by the Ministry for that purpose. TRAIN THE TRAINER The Train the Trainer program comprises four, thirty-hour courses -- Program Design, Giving of Instruction, Evaluation of Learning and a Practicum. VCC Instructors are exempt from the practicum. The Instructional Skills Workshop (ISW) or the Instructors Diploma I.D. 101 is the equivalent of the Giving of Instruction course. All courses emphasize a highly practical hands-on approach to instructor training. Each of the first three courses begins with a review of core skills common to the three courses. These core skills include writing performance objectives and learning tasks, lesson planning and conducting one or more mini-lessons.
