£0 \/b 2- VVINSIDER : VOLUME 6 : NUMBER 2 : FEBRUARY 1/88 V.V.I. OPEN HOUSE SLATED FOR APRIL 14 Mark Thursday, April 14th on your calendar now for this year's Open House! At a time when competition for student enrollment is high, the Open House provides us with a terrific opportunity to encourage potential students to get to know us and our programs. This year we plan to encourage visitors to take "self-conducted" tours of the departments of their choice. By eliminating the structured tours, we hope to reduce the inevitable traffic flow problems while allowing participants to spend more time in the departments of their choice. The creativity of department displays will be all the more important this year to encourage visitors to linger and to stimulate their interest in the programs offered. So, get your department geared up now by getting those creative juices flowing! SNEAK PREVIEW! Watch for the "Win a Grand" Lottery to be launched very shortly by the V.C.C. Educational Foundation Endowment Fund. You'll have a chance to win $1,000.00 every week for one year. This lottery will operate on a "membership" basis. Only 400 memberships will be sold in all, which means that you will have a 1 in 400 chance of winning every week. During a twelve-month period, your chances of winning are 8 to 1! How to get in on the winnings? Keep an eye out for your "Win a Grand" Lottery bulletin for all the details! CONGRATULATIONS, BRIAN! Brian Dwyer has been re-appointed for another three year term as Department Head of the Program Development Department. Keep up the good work, Brian! umcouvEu COMMUmVf Vocational Institute VCC-VANCOUVER VOCATIONAL INSTITUTE LIBRARY FEB 5 1900 - 2 - 1988 TAX FORMS NOW DUE Just a reminder that employees claiming deductions OTHER THAN BASIC must complete a 1988 TD1 Income Tax Form. ON THE MOVE... There have been a few physical department moves during the past week here at V.V.I. Just to bring you up-to-date, Word Processing has moved into the old Financial Aid area (Room 104), while Dick Strachan and staff and Financial Aid have moved into the old Word Processing area (Room 101). This consolidates most of the student service functions into one common area to streamline the student traffic flow. Communications Officer, Sue McAuley has also relocated to Room 104 (Word Processing). LETTERS...WE GET LETTERS! In a letter from Thomas Riggio, President of the National Alarm Association of American to Doug Rowlands, President of CANASA, Larry Sunell was singled out for his efforts with our security education program: "...we require and receive mutual cooperation from other industry leaders. This is evidenced by the cooperation we have received from Mr. Larry Sunell of the Vancouver Community College in Vancouver, B. C., Canada. Larry has provided us with the VCC curriculum, course outlines, training aids, scheduling concepts and many other related ideas. Upon review of his material, we found that extensive research and input from many experts in the security and education field must have gone into their program. Many of Larry's and VCC's ideas are being incorporated in our development program with Moraine Valley Community College here in Illinois..." - 3 - FILM SERIES OFFERED Human Resources Development is offering a series of films that focus on management issues. WOMEN'S NETWORK UPDATE Thirty-eight employees attended the first V.C.C. Women's Network gathering held in December. In general, there was agreement that the group's activities should help all women in the college to realize their potential. Responses varied from wanting to accomplish specific objectives, such as promoting day care and establishing a sexual harassment policy, to expressions of concern for the movement of female employees within the organization, and the supporting of women students. There was unanimous agreement that the Network should continue. The gatherings will be an open, informal meeting with an optional social component and an element of information sharing. Watch the VVInsider for information about the next Network program. If you have any program ideas, contact your campus representative: V.V.I.
