WHO'S NEW AT YYI AND VCC
DAVID W. REY CRAFT has been appointed Director of Public Relations and Development for V CC, effective June
5, 1989.
BARRY KENDRICK has been appointed Acting Department Head for the Business Education Preparation
Department effective June 1,1989.
MOLLY COLE has been appointed Acting Department Head for the Hairdressing Department until Bob Malone can
return to work.

TIME ONCE AGAIN TO JOIN THE BUN RUNNERS, STRIP AND RUN NAKED GANG AND
VVI'S NO NAME RUNNING TEAM
STEPHANIE JEWELL tell us that the Labatt's Lite 24 hour relay run is being held on June 17/18. All the proceeds
go towards support of the B.C. Lions Society for Crippled Children. The No Name Runners have a pledge goal of
$4,500. Pledge on a per mile basis (based on the team' s total mileage which could be about 200 miles) or make a lump
sum pledge prior to the run.
Watch for the pledge tables which will soon be appearing in the mam mall. For more information contact Stephanie

The annual general meeting of the VCC Alumni Association will be held on Wednesday, June 7,1989 in Room 240
at WI from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. The keynote Speaker will be David Walker, President of Boardroom Management
Inc. and the principal of Boardroom Labour Group. Mr. Walker will be speaking on "Vancouver in the Year 2000".

ANOTHER FIRST FOR VCC!
VCC has just installed Canada's first tapeless language lab at KEC. The Sony ZL10 system uses digital voice memory
instead of the traditional audio tape cassettes and offers students and instructors many advantages over current labs
as it has the ability to rapidly review and re-arrange material thus giving teachers and students much more flexibility
during lessons.

...AND THUS POLICY WAS BORN
In the beginning was the plan and then came the assumptions and the assumptions were without form.
The plan was completely without substance and darkness was upon the faces of the workers. And they spake unto
their group heads, saying "It is a crock of —, and it stinketh".
And the group heads went unto their section heads, and sayeth "it is a pail of dung, and none may abide the odour
thereof.

And the section heads went unto their managers, and sayeth unto them "it is a container of excrement, and it is very
strong, such that none may abide by it".
And the managers went unto their Director, and sayeth unto him "it is a vessel of fertilizer, and none may abide its
strength".

And the directors went unto their Director-General and sayeth "It contains that which aids plant growth and it is very
strong".

And the Director-General went unto the Assistant Deputy Minister and sayeth unto him, "It promoteth growth, and
it is very powerful".

And the ADM went unto the Deputy Minister, and sayeth unto him, "This powerful new plan will actively promote
the growth and efficiency of the Department, and this area in particular".
And the Deputy Minister looked upon the plan, and saw that it was good.
And the plan became policy.

WOULD YOU SUPPORT A GREAT IDEA?
The great idea is called Instructional Development Database and has been developed by Selkirk College. It is a
computerized database of articles, programs, modules, skills, etc. related to post-secondary instruction, which will

allow an instructor from any B.C. College to establish what is available throughout the system on any topic relating
to teaching.

The developer intends that this data base should make it unnecessary for instructors to re-invent the wheel every time
they want to try something new in their teaching. Robert Dooley of Selkirk is looking for contributions to the database.
