n VOLUME 2 : NUMBER 7 : FEBRUARY 17, 1984 FEB 0 fejfJ WI OPEN HOUSE OPEN HOUSE '84 is not far away! The dates have now been established as Wednesday and Thursday, MARCH 14 and 15, from 12:00-19:00. The theme is "WI—LEARNING A LIVING". If Open House is to be a success, everyone's co-operation is essential. Please inform your Division Chairman of the activities planned for your departments by February 15th, so that we can include these activities in the information bulletins and promotional flyers. Please help us to make this a dynamic, memorable event. In times of restraint and cut-backs, we can use all the positive publicity we can generate. JV FEBRUARY GRADUATION CEREMONY On Thursday, February 23rd at 14:00, WI is holding the first graduation ceremony of 1984 in the Queen Elizabeth Playhouse Theatre. This time, we have invited a guest speaker: Mr. Norman Pringle, of the Vancouver Kiwanis Club. These graduation ceremonies are proving to be an excellent source of good public relations for the campus. The co-operation of all the departments has been of great assistance and is greatly appreciated. JV CONFERENCE ROOMS As things stand now, Conference Room #1 is on the second floor and Conference Room #2 is on the first floor .... or is it you can find Conference Room #1 beside the Principal's Office and Conference Room #2 by the Dean's Office, but then that is the Dean on the first floor, who is the Dean of Administrative and Student Services or the Dean on the second floor who is the Dean of Instruction, where Conference Room #1 is! Anyway - - to end the confusion, the Conference Rooms will now be known by their physical room numbers. The Conference Room on the lower floor is now Conference Room 107, and the Conference Room on the second floor is Room 200, and thus an end to any confusion!! l*!NCOUfER COMMUNITY VCC-VANC0UVER VOCATIONAL INSTITUTE LIBRARY Vocational Institute CONGRATULATIONS . . . and . . . We are examining alternate sources of funding which, obviously, will include fee increases. In addition, we are exploring innovative approaches to deliver courses and, shortly, we will introduce a series of changes which we hope will permit the program to continue with the least disruption to the participants. Stafford, to ask you to consider making a contribution through the P.A.C.E. S.R. (Steve) Stafford Bursary Fund. Steve's untimely passing was a shock to the adult education community and has deprived us of a good friend and colleague. I know that we will all miss his leadership and good counsel. I believe that, by contributing, we will be supporting adult learners in a way that Steve would have approved. Since Steve's passing, P.A.C.E. has established the S.R. (Steve) Stafford Bursary Fund. The Fund is administered by a six member Board of Trustees, composed of four P.A.C.E. Honorary Life Members, and two P.A.C.E. Board Members. It has tax-exempt status from Revenue Canada. Your contribution, payable to the S.R. (Steve) Stafford Bursary Fund, should be sent to Ms. Barbara Clague, Executive Secretary, P.A.C.E., 2832 West 36th Avenue, Vancouver, B.C., V6N 2R1. Thank you for your contribution. A.S. Manera JOB OPPORTUNITIES KING 03WARD - Department Head, English Language Training (School Canadiana Department). Apply in writing by March 02, 1984. The idea is to send volunteers from among our ranks out into the community to talk to groups ranging from high school class members to citizens groups. The bureau will provide back-up services and will liaise with the organizations requesting a speakers -- all you have to do is turn up on the specified day keen to speak! This is just one way of showing the public that VCC is a good investment. If you are interested in participating please contact Deborah Dresser through Public Relations at Central Administration!
