DAY - APRIL 25/88 "Education, Passion, and the Real World" is the theme for V.C.C. Day. In reality, it's a day of celebration. A time to get together with your colleagues to celebrate who we are and what we do. A time to broaden our campus focus 'college wide' and get to know each other. This full day of activity will be held at the BC Enterprise Centre. The formal day begins at 8:30 am and continues until 5:00 pm, but feel free to stay on a while longer to mix and mingle informally. A full program designed to stimulate us professionally has been put together by the V.C.C. Day Committee. Keynote speaker, lawyer and jurist Thomas Berger, a panel discussion moderated by CBC's Lucie McNeill, and a closing address by author/historian Peter C. Newman will punctuate the otherwise informal day. Mark your calendar now, and watch your payslips and the VVInsider for details and registration forms. V.C.C. WINTER TUNE-UP - FEB. 29 - MARCH 11 Here's another way to get to know your colleagues and to have fun doing it! Jean Blake, Human Resources Development Coordinator invites you to make time for a Winter Tune-Up. What is it? It's a fitness challenge for yourself and an opportunity for all employees to engage in a fun program of physical activity and health awareness. You can form a team to compete as a department, or you can sign up individually for activities that range from Evening Sports Events (downhill skiing, swimming, racquetball or Walleyball, Five Pin Bowling, Curling or Skating) to Brownbag Lunchtime Seminars, from Lifestyle Fitness Assessments to a variety of Campus Activities (watch for the bed races at V.V.I.). The goal is to earn activity points through participation. Awards will be made for different point levels, with a trophy (first annual) to be awarded to the winning campus. If you haven't received your Winter Tune-Up package, including costs and registration forms, call Sue McAuley at the VVInsider, Local 438. (Some events require registration no later than Feb. 23rd, so register now!) - 3 - LETTERS...WE GET LETTERS! Johnny Fournier, a recent graduate of our Shoe Repair Program wrote this letter to Principal, Hans Rerup on January 27, 1988: "I have been meaning to send this letter since I very successfully completed the Shoe Repair Program last August 1987. I appreciate the efforts of Mr. Paul Andrews in helping me obtain a bursary from Versa Food Services. The personal efforts given me by the instructor in the Shoe Repair Program was extremely beneficial on the job I acquired with Mr. Minute Shoe Repair, Sears Metrotown Shopping Centre. Again, I offer my many thanks." GET THE FACTS ON FAX Next time you need a "hot" delivery by messenger, check to see if the recipient has a FAX machine instead. This terrific new service can help you communicate quickly and economically with other campuses, as well as other FAX subscribers nationally and internationally. FAX, which stands for Facsimile Service, is a technology which enables the user to transmit a document (literally any document of any length) from one FAX machine to another via standard telephone networks. It's rates are more than competitive when compared with alternative services. For example, compare the rates to send a four-page document from Vancouver to Toronto: Telex $38.44 Priority Post $15.80 Courier $19.79 FAX $ 1.10 The FAX machine is located in the IMS office opposite the Bookstore and is operated by the IMS staff. If you're not sure whether a particular company has a FAX, check the North American and International FAX directories available in the V.V.I. Library. _ 4 - IT'S A RETIREMENT PARTY!
