This oral health education project for students with developmental disabilities from Britannia Secondary School's Learning Assistance and Life Skills (LALS) Program focused on promoting mindful eating, oral health habits, and knowledge. Culturally sensitive, it incorporated the Indigenous Medicine Wheel for a holistic approach. Students actively participated, collaborating in teaching and learning, with lessons designed to be inclusive, accessible, and support student independence. The project’s success was attributed to the building of trustful relationships with students, the use of culturally relevant materials, and the adoption of flexible lesson plans that prioritized student engagement and participation. Future consideration: maintain collaboration with VCC dental students and Britannia to provide students lessons with accessibility and student engagement.
