Online learning is recognized as a valuable teaching modality for its potential to increase access and reduce institutional costs. The rapid shift resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic has intensified conversations on the effectiveness of online compared to traditional learning formats. A scoping review of 30 research studies on the effectiveness of online learning compared to an in-class format is presented. Potential strategies to successfully implement online learning are explored.
